Winter in Schroon Lake is a cold and refreshing time for the
Adirondacks. The types of sports do change, but the fun is still
in Schroon Lake. Touring the Adirondacks is beautiful in the
winter. Snowmobiling is a fun day around Schroon Lake. What
could be better than taking your own sleds out into the trails?
We have more than 50 miles of free groomed trails. These trails
are maintained by the Schroon Lake/North Hudson Snowmobile Club.
If you wish to become a member of the snowmobile club, you many
contact the chamber office. All the information will be sent to
you.
Winter hiking is a new adventure in the Adirondacks. Many
people put on the snow shoes and take a hike on the trails. This
is a different type of experience only a few people will attempt
in the Adirondacks. |

X-Country Skiing in this area is like taking a walk on the clean
snow of the mountains. Have you ever tried back country skiing?
What fun it is, putting on the skis and breaking a fresh trail
in the woods. For those who would wish a flatter course, there
is always the lake or golf course. Rental of Cross Country skis
and snowshoes is available. Ice Fishing is a good time for the
fisherman. Every year when the ice covers the lake, a whole new
village develops on the lake. Ice shanties of all different
styles and colors will combine to make a whole new community.
Enjoy a day on the ice in one of the rentable shanties with a
good friend and create lots of stories of the fish that got
away. If you think you are a good ice fisherman, come test your
skills on the first weekend of March. The Schroon Lake Fish and
Game hosts an Ice Fishing Derby. This fishing derby has grown
over the years to be a premier fishing event. Come to Schroon
Lake, wet a line, and enjoy the hospitality of the Fish & Game
and Schroon Lake.
For those who wish to have a faster pace, two of the best
skiing mountains in New York are within an hour drive. Gore
Mountain is just 25 miles from Schroon Lake. "Gore is one of
North America’s top resorts, and a Gold Medal Winner for Value"
rated by Ski Magazine, October 1997. The Olympic mountain,
Whiteface Mountain is just 55 miles from Schroon Lake. Ski
Magazine appraised Whiteface as "its relatively unspoiled nature
is what makes skiing at Whiteface a thrilling, singular
experience." Schroon Lake is the best hub for skiing at Gore or
Whiteface. After a full day of outdoor winter activities, what
would be better than curling up in front of a cozy fireplace in
a comfortable lodging. With Schroon Lake’s great winter
accommodations and restaurants, this village is one the best
values in the Adirondacks. |
